Thanks but I did read every post and did not see anywhere where it said the gapps package was included or didn't need one. TW don't need them, good to know. I flashed this rom but I need to get into recovery to flash the right modem. I pressed power+vol up+menu button but I cannot get it to go into recovery, it just boots back up. I also read a post where by going into wanam xposed that there is a module in there to bring it up on the power screen but could not find it anywhere in there. Any help would be appreciated.

It is a timing issue you will need to hold the buttons beyond the point where the phone vibrates and you see a script appear in the top left corner. And yes it is also available in Wanam, I think it is called extended reboot, once installed you have to choose restart after holding down the power button and then it will give you the extended reboot options.

There is a new gapps 4.4.1. I'm gonna test it out.

I want to ask, why do I have to change it to CDMA before flashing? Does 4glte doesn't work on rooted phones?

At 1st we had an issue with the AOSP ROMS not having 4g at all. This is why it was recommended to go ahead and switch to CDMA. 3g and mms was and still is working with AOSP ROMS.

Since that part was added, there has been a possible fix for the AOSP ROMS and 4g. The information is located in this thread. From what I understand after reading it, users will be able to use 4g but will not have the use of mms. It's gonna have to be a user choice.

The information on the 4g fix is located at the top of the AOSP, CyanogenMod, AOSP ROMS section of this thread. Give it a read.

That is correct, TW ROMs do not need GAPPS, only the AOSP ROMS. It has to do with legal stuff. I'd rather not go into in here when there is a lot of information on the Internet explaining it.

As for the correct the modem, there is actually no such thing. Some modems work better on certain phones while other modems work better on others. I ran the LJ7 modem and had better reception on my Boost phone. I had to flash just about every modem available to finally find this out. LOL. I also use the older 31104 prl. Just a little food for thought.

There is an app that will get you into recovery. It's called Quick boot. Download it from the Play store and let it install. Open the app and you will see several options. Reboot, Recovery, Bootloader, & Power off. When you tap the Recovery option, you will be asked for Superuser privilege. Allow it and it will boot you into recovery. SIMPLEEST WAY I'VE FOUND. :-D Once you've allowed Superuser privilege you will never be asked again. Just letting you know it's a one time thing.

The other (old fashioned) way to get into recovery is to press the home key, power, and volume up all at the same time until you see blue writing in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Let go of all the buttons as soon as you see the blue text.

Just a note. I start with pressing and holding the home and volume up keys 1st then while continuing to press these, press and hold power until the blue text appears THEN LET EVERYTHING GO and your phone will boot into your recovery.

The QuickBoot apps is the easiest though. It's my preferred way to access recovery.

As for not knowing TW ROMs didn't need GAPPS, you live and you learn bro. No biggie. We all come here to learn and I apologize if I came off a little harsh.

I hope some of this info helps you out. You really should check out that QuickBoot app. I don't run a ROM without it.

Peace

The short version is... People used to include gapps in AOSP roms without a hitch.

However, as the custom ROM community grew, Google became more concerned with others distributing their proprietary software. Eventually cyanogenmod got a cease and desist letter from Google, and ever since then Roms that aren't based on the stock rom for a device have had separate gapps files.

Thanks Rxpert. You broke it down much better than I would have. Knowing me, I would have written a page on it.

Man, I've just gotta say how happy it makes me to see this entire section as active as it is right now. We've got some great members in here.

We've even got people from other carriers coming in here seeking help. That says a lot about our members here.

Thanks to everyone for making this the best Boost S3 section bar none.

You could try formatting system, data, cache & dalvik cache before restoring Static and see if that helps. Also out of curiosity what recovery are you using?

I've read of this happening with some of the TW ROMs . The only ROMs I've switched back and forth running 4.3 are the AOSP ROMS. Slim Bean was the last. I use TWRP and always do a factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik before restoring a backup. Hope this helps.

Maybe someone who has experienced this will chime in and help out.

Sorry, I couldn't go into detail more about my issue but I was at work. The first time I tried restoring I did not do a wipe and got a bootloop. I then took the battery out and got into recovery the old fashioned way (power+vol up+menu). I then did a advanced wipe with both caches, data, and system, rebooted and still got the bootloop. I pulled battery again and this time restored my 4.1 backup and had no problems booting into that rom. Something I did notice while restoring that I never noticed before is it said restoring boot. That got me thinking and I went into es file explorer to my backup zips to see if maybe there was a file missing. When comparing static backup to my other backup (dandroid), dandroid has more files. They are both TW roms so I don't know if I am onto something or not. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. By the way, my recovery is TWRP.

Do you remember when this issue happened to others, what their solution was or if someone is working on a fix?

I apologize but I do not. I read through soooo many threads. I do remember a thread where people were having trouble restoring older versions of their backups after flashing a 4.3 build. I'm almost positive that it was over at XDA.

Are you talking about doing that before I I do a clean install, while I am doing my wipes or before restoring my backup?? I have all my custom ringtones on the internal storage that my phone uses, if I wipe my internal sd, would a restore bring those files back??
Since it is getting caught in a bootloop, I would think it would be something with the boot, don't know, just fishing??

UPDATED

ADDED TO "KNOWN WORKING SPRINT/BOOST ROMS FOR THE BOOST S3" Section.

Concerning the Wicked Sensations ROM.

ADDED- Link to zip for new MyHub app (replaces Kuban Updater) and MK3 buil.prop fix. MK3 buil.prop fix stops the annoying update notification for that ROM.

__________________________________________________ ________________

Just a note from an Android lover who's been around awhile, flashed and tested more ROMs and mods than I can remember and loves sharing information with the community. Many of which, I consider myself very blessed to call friends.

WICKED SENSATIONS

I run the Wicked Sensations ROM and have been for quite awhile now except for the times I'm testing ROMs and mods for this thread. If you're not worried about whether or not you're running the 4.3 update then I highly recommend giving this ROM a try. It's fast, stable, and the options are MANY!!!!!

Did I mention that the options ARE MANY??? lol

The stock kernel that comes with the ROM is awesome. It's tweaked and performs wonderfully. That being said and being the kernel junkie that I am, I chose to go with the custom KToonsez 747 kernel. I am by no means saying that it is the best either. I am simply saying that this is the one I prefer. The KTweaker app that comes with the kernel is a nice addition too. It gives me full kernel control along with the option to overclock if i want to. The kernel comes with the overclock option disabled which I think was a brilliant decision by Ktoonsez. You have to actually go into the settings and enable the overclock option. I like this because you can get all the kernel tweaks without even overclocking your phone. Nice huh? Yeah, I thought so too. The KTweaker app also offers many other extras like Fast Charge. I've use this option and it's definitely nice to have if you need a quick charge and don't want to go through the process of changing the battery or working from a phone that's tethered to a charging cable. This option also disables itself when you reboot which I think was another brilliant choice on the developers part. It's cool to have the fast charge option if you need it but it's best for the battery if it's not used as a primary charging method.

Team Wicked is working hard on updating this to 4.3 but trust me when I say that this baby is a gem as is. It comes with a lot of features but doesn't come with all the apps and mods built in like some of the other ROMs do. You have the option to add what you want via the ROM thread or the MyHub app which is still in the process of being updated. You can truly make this ROM your own with the options that are available. That, the stability of the ROM, and the member base in the thread are outstanding. Many of the members are constantly adding full themes, themed apps, and mods. The ROM support in the thread is also superb! Trust and believe me when I say that there are some very talented people who help out in the ROM thread. I would list them but I would be here for another hour. Yes..... there are that many people who help out with the themes, mods, and support.

THE MOTHER OF ALL ROMS (MOAR)

Another ROM that I absolutely MUST mention is MOAR. When it comes to ROMs, it is definitely a masterpiece in my book. I am absolutely in awe at what Rompnit and Team nOObz have created! If you want a ROM that comes fully equipped with just about anything you could imagine, please give the ROM a try. I ran MOAR for a good while and it ran beautifully. It's just that I'm more of a simple kinda guy when it comes to mods and options that come built into a ROM. Many of the options incorporated into MOAR would never be used by me. For the person who wants it all and would use it, MOAR is the ROM for you. As I mentioned earlier, MOAR is an absolute masterpiece and is by far one of the best ROMs I have ever ran.

Soooooooo....... I felt like sharing a little tonight and figured I would go ahead and add it to the UPDATE I was posting instead of creating a new post. Hopefully some of the info here will come in handy. If it helps only 1 person then it was well worth the time it took to write it.

Thanks again to the members who have taken their time and have helped this section grow. I consider it a blessing to work with and learn from each of you.

Well, for what it's worth, boost's OTA is already nagging me to update from MOAR. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to that.

So, I confess I rather liked the look of jd's 4.3 MK5. But the main thing that I really need/appreciate is being able to properly tether like I am able to with MOAR. Surprisingly, stock 4.1.2 fails to run 3DMark at all, but MOAR will. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I have a S3 on boost mobile and I'm rooted and running a custom rom. I am having a connectivity issue and was wondering if you could offer any suggestions? Here is my issue, when I first flash a rom and set it up, I have data, (3 and 4G). Once I set up my wifi and turn wifi off, it breaks the data connection. I can no longer get a data connection at anytime. When I have these issues I am on a Aosp rom, I have tried several different Aosp roms and I have the same issue. However, I have tried several touchwiz roms and I don't have that iisue. I can tun wifi on and off and after turning that off, my data connection comes back. I am at a loss for what is happening. I would like very much to use some of the 4.3 Aosp roms but because of this iissue, cannot. I also have to point out that the touchwiz roms where 4.1 android whereas the Aosp roms were 4.3. Myabe it is something with android 4.3 but I have done several google searches and cannot find anyone else that has these same issues or any solutions.

Haven't experienced this directly, but just for grins have you updated PRL, profile etc. while on TW before reflashing AOSP? Also, maybe a different modem-MG2, MK5, MK3, MD4?

Sounds like you to flash the APN fix. Check this thread.

Been wanting to try that since yesterday, glad you confirmed for me. Everyone on AOSP needs to know to not flash the bionic fix, just the Dalvik one. This warning is straight from the page in the link.

Sounds like you to flash the APN fix. Check this thread.

Do you know where abouts in this thread the APN fix is? This thread is 59 pages and I would hate to go through every page. Also, I installed the APN backup and restore but it won't let me do it on the aosp rom. Said I don't have permissions, I did it awhile age on a tw rom but data still didn't work. I was gonna see if I can do it on this aosp rom. Also, I don't see a superuser app in my drawer but I have tb and can backup and restore apps so it looks like I do have superuser permissions.

You have to do two things with APN Backup to make it work

1. Move it from /user to /system (Titanium can do this for you)
2. Disable ICS Check from within app

This is it to fix data. But if your on boost like me you have to reboot every time you switch from LTE to WiFi. Down load an app called fast reboot. That way you just reboot ui not whole phone lot quicker

OK, I did what you directed and was successful in restoring the boost APN and rebooted and still don't have data. Any suggestions?

Something that is a little peculiar under settings, more, data network, network operator, it says error searching for network, but when I flash my 4.1 rom, have no data issue whatsoever.

I still think update PRL and Profile from a TW ROM, then maybe try a different modem as well.

I have tried 3 different modems mk3, mk5, and mg2, all with no success. Before I flashed this aosp rom, I did a prl and a profile update on my tw rom. I am out of ideas.

I am sure it has nothing to do with Android build number, but try flashing jdsingle76's 4.3 Knox free stock ROM, then go from there. Are you on the MG2 boot loader or MD7 (not modem but actual boot loader); MD7 was not always compatible for flashing JellyBean, so you may need MG2 boot loader as well, just brainstorming.

Did you accept the Knox 4.3 OTA or are you running previous firmware? Only way to check for Knox is in download mode, if you have a line at the bottom of the screen referring to "Warranty Bit" of either zero or one, you have it. I ask because there is a stock .tar available for the MG2 bootloader, it saved my butt in the early days of my owning this phone. However, and I am going to yell here just for everyone's sake, DO NOT USE THAT FILE OR ANY FILE LIKE IT (RETURN TO STOCK VIA ODIN) IF YOU HAVE THE KNOX BOOTLOADER!! Unless you like expensive paperweights that is! If, and only if, you are Knox free, that bootloader may be helpful.

I am not running knox. Previous firmware that I've been using to flash and restore roms. The only rom I have installed recently is the static power rom that did not have knox in it.

I truly don't know, just speculating that the MG2 bootloader might give you a proper flash, in case you still have MD7, since it was designed to flash JellyBean ROM's and the MD7 was an Ice Cream Sandwich bootloader. Congratulations on being Knox free by the way.
